Experience the wonder, excitement and romance of the Klondike Gold Fields. Located only 10 minutes by motor coach from the cruise ship docks and downtown Skagway, you can be panning for gold in no time!
This tour features the same piece of gold mining technology that was responsible for mining over 70% of all the gold taken from both the Yukon and Alaska. Placer mining for gold, using water and hydraulics, was the main method of separating gold from gravel.
Your adventure will begin with a brief ride through historic Skagway. You will see a short video depicting the people, times and places this gold dredge impacted over the course of 60 years, including the "old timers" who operated this dredge. You can see the gold dredges in operation, showing "tons of gold" being removed.
Next is your personally guided tour of the dredge, including an antique mining exhibit . . . then on to gold panning! You will have the opportunity to pan "pay dirt" brought down from an active gold claim in the Klondike. Gold panning instructions are included and experienced gold-panners are available to assist you.
Facility: Our entire facility is wheelchair accessible. Lined, hooded parkas are available. The covered panning areas feature warm water for your enjoyment.
Extras: Mining Gift Shop and complimentary coffee, tea and water at the Snack Bar. Our tour operator can pick you up at the Railroad/Water Taxi Docks, the Ferry/Broadway Docks, the Ore Dock, or at Broadway and Seventh Avenue.
